The PS2 is now the world's most popular video game console. Sony has a very capable console, but it lags behind Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube in overall hardware performance. Although the Xbox is almost a mate to the PS2 (both use the same DVD drive), the Xbox outshines it on many software and hardware levels. The Xbox made the most widely accessible entry into the console market, hitting stores shortly after the PlayStation 2's arrival in North America. Sony, meanwhile, decided to hit the ground running, announcing its highly anticipated gaming system early in 2001. However, although the PS2 was first to market, the Xbox seemed to be first out of the gate.
Codemasters released the first Colin McRae Rally video game in 1998. Version 2, known as Colin McRae Rally 2.0, was released in 2000, for Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft Windows; it was also ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2002. A third version found a wide audience on Windows and Xbox. Versions 04 and 2005 arrived in 2004 on all major platforms. 2005 was also remade for Sony's PlayStation Portable and Nokia's N-Gage. 7211a4ac4a
