The present invention relates to wireless networks, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for performing a handover in a wireless network.
2. Description of the Related Art
In order to provide users with various services in a wired network, a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) has been developed. The WLAN is a network that performs data communication in a wireless area. As compared with a wired Local Area Network (LAN), the WLAN can provide a mobile terminal with data communication while allowing the mobile terminal to access a specific service without requiring a cable connection.
With the development of the WLAN, a wireless network service is gradually evolving toward high speed, high quality wireless data service, and an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.16e standard has been developed in order to support such high speed, high quality wireless data service. The IEEE 802.16e standard includes, among others, Enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) features for supporting services having different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.
To this end, a mobile station performs QoS processings with the use of a QoS Information Element (QIE) contained in a Medium Access Control (MAC) header to provide various QoS services. For example, a QOS parameter in a MAC header may contain a Prioritized Guaranteed Bit Rate (PGBR) value to provide the highest priority QoS service. The PGBR value can be used to indicate the bit rate that will be guaranteed for transmission and/or reception of data frames by the mobile station.
